Hi, my name is Nicholas Mamiya, I am a final year Biology student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the graphic designer at Dziffa.com. It’s been almost a year since I joined the team.
Here is my story...
Last May, I saw a flier on my school’s WhatsApp group about a startup which was seeking interns, so I did a little research and applied. Being a strong believer in passion-driven careers, I wanted value for the hours and energy I would be investing in the company. As such, I needed to be certain that the company contributed to the greater good of my community.
As a graphics designer, I do not always get to see the products or interact with our local partners. You can imagine the joy on my face when I spotted one of the most popular brands on dziffa.com during my trip to the Northern Region last week.
I was strolling around after long day at the Mole National Park when I saw TAMA’s community shop in Tamale. I was highly impressed to see the variety of nicely packaged and environmentally friendly products. I was humbled to witness firsthand the job opportunities TAMA was creating for women in such deprived communities.
I’ve always been fascinated by the skills and talents of our local artisans and wished there was a way the world could see and appreciate the pool of talent in Africa. Dziffa.com gave me the opportunity to not only wish but also contribute to helping local businesses expand their global reach. I strongly believe local businesses hold the key to Africa’s development and I’m very proud to be part of such a young company.
